Father’s Day is a time to show your appreciation for the important men in your life. Whether you’re celebrating your dad, stepdad, granddad, brother, uncle, or anyone else who’s filled this important role in your life, it’s a yearly reminder that men can be notoriously difficult to buy gifts for.

These gifts often don’t need to be extravagant or unique. They just need to have enough intention behind them to make them feel appreciated.

This year, we’re so proud to introduce a new artwork from the son of a Yarn legendary collaborating artist. Brayden Chambers takes after his father, Charlie Chambers Jnr, not only in his artistic talent but his storytelling ability too.

His breakout artwork ‘A Father’s Teachings’ has a beautiful storyline of fathers teaching their young in two sides: the Indigenous First Nations and the emu side. Along with Brayden's heartfelt artwork, we’ve also put together a list of 10 gift ideas for Father’s Day. Whether you're mob or an ally, these gifts are designed for everyone to be worn with pride.

Australian Dad Gift Ideas

As well as our new release, you'll also find ideas from many of our previous collections. Deadly Dads by Steven Bekue represents "showing love and respect to all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and father figures in our lives and appreciating everything they do for us."

1. Socks

The classic - Father’s Day gifting 101. You might not think that’s a very creative gift idea and maybe his Christmas presents last year were all socks. But bear with us! When you get cool and unique socks with artwork made with love, it’s surely the most sentimental Father’s Day socks that he’s ever received. Sometimes simple is best.

It’s a great, affordable gift if you’re working on a tight budget. But really, it is just a great gift, anyway.

2. Mug

A wise man once said, “you can never have too many mugs.”

And the wise man is right: nothing makes a man prouder than a cupboard full of colourful mugs. (Well, maybe some things...)

At Yarn, we take it one step further, because all of our mugs - designed with First Nations artwork - are printed right here at our Meanjin (Brisbane) studio. So as well as supporting Indigenous artists, we also support local and Indigenous employment and training. Check out our new ‘A Father’s Teachings’ mugs to gift your dad.

3. Polo Shirt

Polos are a man’s best friend. Or is that a dog? Anyway, polos…

Especially in the hot Australian sun, a hot Australian dad needs something that can keep him looking and feeling cool. Especially if they are made with artwork by Indigenous artists, they make a great gift for your dad.

4. Plant Pot

Is your dad a bit of a green thumb? In that case, he'll love a colourful pot to place his plants. He probably already has a whole heap of cheap plastic planters hanging around. But making his sanctuary pop even more is a special

5. Beach Towel

Getting ready for summer? Well you’re going to need to get the kit together. A cool and unique sand-free towel for the beach helps your dad, uncle, or granddad stand out in the sand crowd. Brayden Chambers' artwork 'A Father's Teachings' is the perfect beach towel design to gift for Father's Day this year.

6. Suit Accessories

He can wear the same suit to every event but switching up the tie, pins, pocket squares, and cufflinks are a fun way to add colour and Cultural appreciation to a formal attire.

They’re a guaranteed way to get the man compliments but also helps him reuse that suit again and again without anyone noticing. We love a sustainable dad.

7. Stationery

Why not try a fun way to spice up his desk with a colourful mouse mat or pen? Especially if it’s something he will use a lot, sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest impact.

8. Raise the Flag Collection

Now that the Aboriginal flag is freed, it is a bold way to show pride for Aboriginal Culture. Mob or ally, everyone is welcome to wear the flag to show respect for the land, peoples, and Culture.

9. Sun Hats and Caps

We love a sun protecting dad and a little cap to complete the moment is a simple yet sentimental gift for a man who doesn't wear enough sunscreen. Also available in 'A Father's Teachings' designs, be among the first to style this new release.

10. T-Shirts & Button Up Shirts

A statement shirt is a cool way to show off personality. Rayon is a perfect material for the hot summer months and the way this material falls makes an elegant and comfortable fit.  Make dad stand out in all the best ways.

If he's more of a t-shirt guy, Yarn's t-shirts are a unique gift, printed from our Meanjin studio with First Nations artwork. Our 'A Father's Teachings' and 'Deadly Dads' collections both have stories paying respect to fathers and have beautiful colour palettes for guys to wear with pride.

Father’s Day Artwork Feature

Honouring all fathers and father figures, Brayden Chambers has created an artwork depicting the invaluable lessons, knowledge, and Culture passed from generation to generation. Making this piece extra special, Brayden is the son of legendary Yarn collaborating artist Charlie Chambers Jnr

Brayden uses this moment to acknowledge the many gifts and lessons from his dad in life, Indigenous Culture, and art. Mirroring the important teachings on two sides, he adds a vibrant and powerful river of blue running through.

“It shows a father with his children around a campfire with feet leading down to a river bank for a ceremony that First Nations peoples do to signify a transition into adulthood. The right side of the painting also displays the knowledge a father passes down to their kin such as family lineage, Dreamtime stories, tools, and instruments, and how to navigate the bush.”

“The ways a father emu takes care of his young, taking his newly-hatched chicks down to the river bank for a drink. The father emu will also teach his young how to avoid predators, how to eat, how to navigate the bush, and lastly carry on the life of the species.” - Brayden

Final Thoughts

Getting your dad the perfect Father’s Day gift can be tricky. But Australian gifts for your dad are a cool way to show appreciation for First Nations Culture with a colourful and bright collection.

As well as being a sentimental way to show him you love him, all the sales at Yarn pay royalties to the artist supporting their career and creativity. It's a cool way to support Indigenous artists and show appreciation for First Nations Culture while spoiling dad at the same time.

Happy Father's Day!
