Teagan Malcolm
Kamilaroi Woman
Hi! My name's Teagan, I'm a proud Kamilaroi woman, illustrator, artist and graphic designer. I moved around a lot as a child but spent the majority of my time growing up on Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung Country. At 18 I moved to Wurundjeri Country (Melbourne), to pursue Graphic Design and have warmly called it home ever since.
After returning home from living overseas, I was yearning to reconnect with myself and my community. I made art again for the first time in a long time and have been using it to tell stories everyday since. Inspiration comes from many places, my community, my experiences, my family and the world around me, both natural and made. I'm passionate about telling contemporary stories of family, travel and connecting to Country and hope that by capturing these moments through my art they may be preserved for years to come.
Artworks
Warm Water
"Warm Water" captures the serene experience of floating in the ocean, embraced by the warmth of the sun. It conveys the sensation of being one with the sea, being one with Country. This connection with the ocean is rejuvenating, and brings me a profound sense of happiness, safety, and calm. I hope this artwork evokes those same feelings in you.
Half Time
"Half Time" captures the excitement of cheering on your favorite team. The grandstands are packed and bursting with noise, creating an electric atmosphere. This piece brings to life the vibrant energy and communal joy of a thrilling game day.
A Collage of Life
"A Collage of Life" visually narrates the journey from beginning to end, represented by two central meeting places. The lines connecting these points symbolise the endless possibilities and pathways that life offers. Surrounding this journey are the people, places, and experiences that shape our lives. The background grid evokes the look of a paper cutting mat, while the vibrant colors give the piece the dynamic feel of someone assembling a collage of their life.
